Church of Our Lady of Pompei is situated at Gurpur-Kaikamba, 19 km from
Mangalore in
Karnataka. Gurpur is locally known as Kowdoor. The church was part of the Pezar and Ferar parishes. It got the status of an independent parish on May 8, 1921 headed by Fr. Anthony A. Colaco. The Church has a main wooden carved altar donated by the Hospet church and blessed in October, 1933. Fr Aveline Rebello erected a huge cross on the hill to mark 150 years of
Tipu’s captivity of the Christians. An arch welcomes the devotees at the road entrance to the Church of Our Lady of Pompei. Pompech Phalk is the official parish newsletter. A primary school is run by the church which had been started in 1922 by Fr Anthony A. Colaco.
Situated on the Mangalroe-Moodbidri highway, Church of Our Lady of Pompei at Gurpur is reachable from Mangalore by bus.
