Christian Medical College and Hospital




Christian Medical College (CMC) at Bagayam in Vellore is one of the biggest health care institutions in India. Founded in 1900 by Dr Ida Scudder, daughter of an American missionary of South India, it offers quality medical education and health care to all people of the society, especially the poor.

The college conducts graduate courses in Medicine, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Laboratory Technology, and Medical Records Science; 10 postgraduate medical diploma courses, 23 postgraduate degree courses and 10 higher specialty courses. Community-based education and research is one of the main features of the institution.

The hospital comprises a Mental Health Center and Rehabilitation Center, the Community Health and Development (CHAD) unit, Rural Unit for Health and Social Affairs (RUHSA) and the Ida Scudder Ward and an eye hospital. The hospital specializes in neurology and neurosurgery, organ transplantation, advanced cardiology and cardiothoracic surgery.

National and international funding agencies support its researches in the areas of population studies, basic research in organ transplantation, HIV-AIDS and rehabilitation of spinal cord injuries.

Katpadi Junction Railway Station is about 10 km from the CMC campus. Chennai International Airport is the nearest airport.
