Chopuranathar Temple




Chopuranathar Temple is an ancient temple located at Thiagavalli near Cuddalore in Tamil Nadu. The presiding deity of the temple is Lord Shiva in the form of Chopuranathar or Mangalapureeswarar. Near to it is the worship place for Goddess Chopuranayaki. The inscriptions of the temple are of historical importance. Traditional story is that Agasthyar and a princess named Tyagavalli worshipped Shiva, hence the shrine goes by the name Tyagavalli. The main festivals celebrated are Pankuni Uthiram, Kartikai Deepam and Masi Magam. The nearest railway station is 3 km north-east of Alapakkam.
