Chhetsu is an annual fair of the
Lahaul valley in
Himachal Pradesh. The story of this fair is linked with Lang Darma, an ancient Tibet ruler, who strongly opposed
Buddhism. The people of his kingdom put an end to his reign by organizing a ritual dance of the demons, and during the course of which he was murdered.
A dance called Asur Dance is performed during this fair, in which people wear loose robes and masks on their faces. It is done to memorize and re-invoke the ritual demon dance.
