Chhattisgarh. This festival is observed on the last of day of the Hindu month of Paush (December-January). All the accounts of the farmers are settled on the next day.
This festival is usually celebrated by the tribal people. However, in some regions even the non-tribal people participate. On this day, fowls and goats are sacrificed. A special dance form called ‘Karma’ is performed during the night. A special dish called ‘khichhari’ is prepared by the children on this occasion, the ingredients for which are collected from each house in the locality. The feast held during this festival, called ‘Khichharahi’, derives its name from this dish.
