Chheihlam is one of the popular dance forms of
Mizoram. This dance has been developed from 'Puma Zai' song and 'Tlanglam' dance.
Chheihlam is performed over gallons of rice beer and is played to the tune of the song that is made on the spot. This song is accompanied by beating of the drums or clapping of hands. People squat on the floor in a circle while the dancer stands in the middle reciting a song with various movements of limbs and body.
As the tempo rose, spectators also perform in this dance. It is usually performed in the evening and symbolizes the end of a day's work in the fields.
