Chettikulangara Ethirelpu Ulsav




Chettikulangara Ethirelpu Ulsav is one among the major festivals celebrated in the Chettikulangara Sree Bhagavathi Temple. It is a 13-day long festival organized by the residents of each Kara (Desam) numbering 13. A large number of people throng at the temple on this occasion for the special rituals and festivities conducted.

During these days, colorful processions from each Kara to the temple are held with a display of caparisoned elephants carrying the idol of the main deity. The procession is accompanied by drums, Kuthiyottam songs, decorated structures and display of events from the Mahabharata and the Ramayana.

Thottam pattu, a devotional song, is sung by certain community during the festival. Classical arts and other temple arts are also staged in the temple premises. The temple is located at Chettikulangara, about 5 km east of Kayamkulam in Alappuzha District.
