Located in
Thrissur District of
Kerala, Cherpu is around 8 km from
Thrissur. It is the hometown of several famous percussion artists.
With acres of coconut palms, tiled roof houses with spacious courtyards and luxuriant paddy fields, Cherpu has a typical Kerala landscape. The village is also engaged in many skilled works such as wooden handicrafts, wooden furniture, caparison, tile industry and jewelry ornaments.
Peruvanam Temple, Urakam Ammathiruvadi Temple, Thiruvullakkavu Dharmashastha Temple, Cherpu Bhagavati Temple,and Thayamkulangara Subramanyaswami Temple, which is very famous for Thaipusam, are some of the major temples in the vicinity.
The main attraction is the parade of 101 caparisoned elephant’s parade through the town of Thrissur towards Cherpu. The event is viewed with awe and wonder by thousands of visitors from India and abroad.
