Chepa is an indigenous fish trap used in
Assam. It is a spherical object constructed from bamboo. Jute strands or soft cane strips are used for weaving the bamboos together.
The chepa is simply placed into the water. It contains a valve called ‘kal’ (also called ‘par’ in Bengali) in the middle of its body. Fishes that accidentally enters the chepa through the valve is trapped inside.
