Chaumu Temple

Chaumu Temple is situated at Pancheshwar, a small village located in Champawat District of Uttaranchal. This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. He is referred locally as Chaumu and is considered as the protector of the animals. As a mark of their veneration, devotees offer bells and milk to the deity. They also make it a point to take a holy dip in the nearby confluence of the rivers Kali and Sarayu.

Chaumu Temple is known for its annual Uttarayani Mela, held on Makar Sankranti. During this auspicious occasion, hordes of people undertake a yatra from a nearby village, Sail, five kilometers from the temple. This journey, called Chaumu Jaat, reflects the culture of the region.
