Chathan Kandar Kavu

Chathan Kandar Kavu is an ancient temple situated at Ottappalam in Palakkad District. Dedicated to Goddess Durga, the temple is believed to have been built by Kanjoor Namboothiri. According to Hindu myth, Chathan, a member of the low caste, was sharpening his knife on a stone. Suddenly the stone started bleeding, showing the presence of some supernatural presence here. After some days a temple was constructed at this spot. The Thalapoli festival, celebrated on the Avittam day of Meenam (March-April), is the main festival attended by a large number of devotees.
