Char Chowk Haveli

The Haveli of Four Courtyards

Char Chowk Haveli is a magnificent structure situated at Lakshmangarh, a fortified town in Sikar District of Rajasthan. It was built by Muralidhar Ganeriwala in 1840. The word 'Char Chowk Haveli' means 'Haveli of Four Courtyards.' Aptly the building reflects the life style of Marwaris.

Along with the grand carved doors fixed with metal studs, the lattice screens of the building look attractive. The walls are adorned by beautiful frescos. The external wall features a painting of a bird standing on an elephant with another elephant in its beak. A small room, which is generally kept locked, in the northern part has erotic paintings.
