Located around 35 km north east of
Mangalore, and nestled in the foothills of
Chandragiri Hills, Chandranatha Basti of Vijayanagar period is one of the oldest Jain monuments in the town. The outer Basti enshrines the transparent marble statue of Chandranatha in standing posture. It has very intricate and elaborate carvings on its pillars, door and roof. The shrine is surrounded by open pillared corridors. The whole architecture of the Basti reveals a high standard of artistic excellence of ancient period. Close to the entrance is a Jain mutt holding valuable manuscripts. Nearby
