Chandanakavu is the native place of Melpathur Narayana Bhattatiri, a Sanskrit poet and famous grammarian who lived in the 16th century. The place comprises a monument dedicated to the poet. On Vijayadasami day, the custom of starting the initial learning by children is done here as in Thunjan Parambu.
Chandanakavu is located on Thirunnavaya - Kottakal road in Malappuram District and 10 km from Tirur. Tirur railway station is the nearest railhead.
