Chamrajnagar




Chamrajnagar is the administrative headquarters of Chamrajnagar District, which was carved out of the Mysore District, in Karnataka.

Chamrajnagar’s early name was Arokotara. It was changed to its present name by Krishnaraja Wodeyar of Mysore in 1818.

Major tourist interest in the town is the Chamarajeshwara Temple (1825). The remains of an ancient city named Manipura are found nearby.

Nearest airport is at Bangalore. Chamrajnagar Railway Station is on the Mysore-Mettupalayam line. National Highway 209 passes through Chamrajnagar.
