Chalani is an indigenous sieve of
Assam. It is shaped like a disk with a diameter ranging from 1.5 to 3.5 feet.
Woven from fine bamboo slips with spaces in between, it is used for a variety of purposes. Apart from sieving rice, paddy, tea-leaves and a variety of grains, it is also used for washing fish and similar items. It is also commonly used for catching fish, because of its net like structure.
