Central National Herbarium, the largest herbarium in South East Asia, is situated within the
Indian Botanic Garden at Shibpur in
West Bengal. It was established by the Botanical Survey of India.
Central National Herbarium has over 1.5 million dried out plant specimens. It also preserves and distributes different species of plants. Research facilities are provided to both Indian and foreign scholars in plant morphology, anatomy and palynology. Original drawings of Indian plants done by Indian artists are also displayed.
