Central Glass and Ceramics Institute conducts research and studies in the field of glass and ceramic technology. The major R&D programs of CGCRI relate to the development of different varieties of optical materials, namely optical glasses, laser glasses, specialty glasses, and communication fibre.
The Institute also conducts research and development programs in various industrial fields: oxide and non-oxide ceramics for engineering and high temperature applications, electronic ceramics, bioceramics, ceramic coatings for protection of metal surfaces, sol-gel derived glass and ceramic coatings, low-cost building materials and composites.
