Central Coffee Research Institute is situated near
Balehonnur in
Chikmagalur District of
Karnataka. It was established in 1925 under the leadership of late Dr Leslie C Coleman, and was formerly known as the Coffee Experimental Station. The institute conducts research in the disciplines of plant breeding, agronomy, agricultural chemistry and soil science, plant physiology, pathology, entomology and post-harvest technology.
Research farm is spread over an area of 130 hectares, in which about 80 hectares are cultivated with coffee. Regular training is provided for the estate managers and supervisory personnel. Laboratory facility is also available.
