Situated in the remote, backward and tribal territory of
Andaman and Nicobar Islands, The Central Agricultural Research Institute provides a research base to improve the productivity of important agri-horticulture, livestock and fisheries of Andaman and Nicobar Islands through adaptive and basic research for attaining economic self-sufficiency.
The main research and residential complex is at
Garacharma, around 9 km from
Port Blair. The central laboratory block houses division of field crops, division of horticulture and forestry, entomology and plant pathology section, division of animal science, division of fisheries science and division of natural resource management. The field research units of horticulture, plantation crops, fisheries and the main Krishi Vigyan Kendra building are situated at the
Sippighat Farm, around 8 km away from the main campus.
