Cattle Island




Cattle Island is a submerged hill in the Hirakud reservoir, near the Kumarbandh village in Sambalpur District, Orissa. This region was a developed village before the construction of the dam. During the resettlement period, the villagers left some of their cows and bulls, which eventually settled down on the hill top as the nearby area gradually got filled up with reservoir water.

The inhabitants of the island now comprise of cattle group of animals and hence the region is considered to be a natural wonder. These animals, staying away from mankind, are wild and quite bigger in size as compared to the normal cattle.

The island is about 90 km from Sambalpur and only 10 km if travel through the reservoir.
