Although carpets are woven all over the country,
Uttar Pradesh leads in the trade. The main centers are
Agra,
Bhadohi, Khamaria and about 500 villages in their vicinity. Old 18th century designs with short clippings of the yarn around the curves are also used. The weavers produce both traditional as well as new designs. Agra has been famous for carpets since the Mughal days. In Shahjahapur, both cotton and woollen carpets are made.
