Cachom Lam, also called Lampi Dance, is a folk dance performed by the
Thadou tribe of
Manipur. This dance, which is simple yet meaningful, is noted for its beauty. Both boys and girls participate in this dance.
In the beginning, the dancers form a circle. One or two pairs step into the center of the circular formation and start dancing. The dance is accompanied with the rhythmic music of a drum or gong. The movements speed up with the increasing tempo of the music. The excitement lasts till the drums stop beating.
Cachom Lam is a major attraction in many public functions and cultural programs. The dancers attire themselves in colorful costumes, further enhancing the beauty of the dance.
