C V Raman Pillai (1858-1922) was one of the greatest novelists of
Malayalam literature. He graduated from the
University of Madras and worked with many Malayalam and English dailies. He used history as a means to unfold the intricacies of human life, both on the socio-political and on the psychological planes. The first book published by C V was a satire called Chandramukhivilasam. He has to his credit a number of novels and satirical plays including Marthanda Varma, Premamritam, Dharama Raja, and Rama Raja Bhadur. Kuruppillaakkalari, Tentanamkotu Harischandran, Doctorkku Kittiya Micham, and Pantatthe Pachan are among his humorous plays.
