Burzahom




Burzahom, an archaeological site, is located 5 km northwest of Shalimar Gardens in Srinagar. Burzahom means 'place of birch' in Kashmiri and was the first Neolithic site to be discovered in Jammu and Kashmir. Burzahom is lies on the bed of a dried-up lake.

Excavations done here had unearthed invaluable evidences regarding settlements as old as 5,000 years. Also obtained are implements, pots, animal skeletons, arrowheads and tools from the Neolithic age. All these collected artifacts are showcased in the Srinagar Museum.

It is around 10 km from city center.
