Bumkhor is a religious festival linked with agricultural activities and is celebrated in
Lahaul and Spiti District of
Himachal Pradesh.
It is based on a popular belief that if religious books are taken around the fields, the farmers will be gifted with a good harvest. Hence they do the same with priests leading the way, chanting religious scriptures.
The group later assembles in the village where prayers are conducted. They are then served with food and chhang (a locally brewed barley beer).
