The Buguns, also known as Khowas, are a gentle, hospitable and affectionate people. They belong to the Mongoloid stock and are of fair complexion. Buguns have a flat nose, conspicuous cheekbones, black hair and brownish eyes. Both males and females keep long hair and tie their hair. Buguns are said to have originated from a tribe called Achimpimbu. The tribe practices endogamy.
The Buguns are agriculturists. They practice shift cultivation and keep domesticated animals and birds such as cow, horse, pig, sheep, goat, fowl and very rarely mithuns. They hunt and chase using spears, traps, bows and arrows.
