Boddemma

Boddemma, a festival of Andhra Pradesh, is dedicated to Goddess Gauri and is celeberated mainly by unmarried girls. The idol of Boddemma is made with the sand of the ant-hill in seven layers. The idol assumes the shape of a Gopura (dome). Decorated with flowers, turmeric and vermilion, it is placed in the court-yard. The girls congregate in the evening and dance, sing and pray for their early marriage. Boddemma Festival starts nine days preceding the Batakamma festival and concludes on Mahalaya Amavasya.
