Bnei Menashe tribe inhabits parts of north-east India, predominantly the states of
Mizoram and
Manipur. This tribe is also referred by the name Shinlung. This tribe is believed to be the descendants of the Menashe tribe, one of the 10 lost tribes of Israel, who were exiled from Israel in the year 721 BC. They entered India through China.
The people belonging to the Bnei Menashe tribe, owing to their ancestry, still follows the Jewish religion. Conforming to their religious beliefs they observe the Shabbat (day of rest) and other Jewish festivals. They have their own synagogues. The traditional language of Hebrew is still taught to the children. Apart from the language, the teachings from the holy book of Torah are preached.
