Bizhu is the most important socio-religious festival of the
Chakmas of
Tripura. It lasts for three days. The festival starts before the last day of the Bengali calendar. Household items and clothes are cleaned and the house is decorated with flowers on the first day of the festival which is called Phool Bizhu. Lord Buddha is worshipped in the evening. Lamps are lit at the temple and in the houses.
The second day, called Mul Bizhu, starts with a holy bath in the river. Confectioneries and sweets are made that day.
The last day, the Gojjepojje Bizhu, is celebrated with different socio-religious activities.
