The entire population of
Manipur comprises different social groups. Among these groups, Bishnupuris are the descendants of Doms and other
Bengalis of low castes. The community members are also known by the name Kalacheiya. At present, they are declared bona fide citizens of Manipur society, who is claimed for reservation.
