Founded in 1981, the Birsa Agricultural University is the first of its kind established in the tribal belt of the Eastern zone of India. It is situated on the
Ranchi-Patratu road, about 8 km north of Ranchi in
Jharkhand.
It aims at strengthening the life of the adivasis (schedule tribes), economically backward classes and other inhabitants of Jharkhand plateau through developing and educating the modern practices and technologies in the field of agriculture, animal husbandry and forestry.
The university has 3 affiliated colleges, namely Ranchi Agricultural College, Ranchi Veterinary College and College of Forestry, situated in the same campus. They offer under graduate programs, post graduate programs and student welfare programs.
Birsa Agricultural University is 13 km north of Ranchi Railway Station and 17 km north of Ranchi Airport.
