Birhors

Birhors are the nomadic tribes living in the north-eastern areas of Chota Nagpur plateau, Jharkhand. They are said to be the lineal descent of Anginat group.

Birhors are divided into two groups namely Bhulya and Jaghi (Thania). They possess the custom of separate houses for the youths. The tribe members find their livelihood from fruits and hunting. These members stay in houses called ‘Tada’, away from the people.

Birhors speak Austric language. Udra Udri Bapla and Gole Bapla are two famous marriage ceremonies. The main deity of the tribe is Bora-Bonga, who is believed to be the creator of the Universe.
