Birendra Kumar Bhattcharya

Born in 1924, Birendra Kumar Bhattcharya was the President of Assam Sahitya Sabha and the first Assamese Jnanpith Award winner. He was also awarded the Sahitya Akademi Award for the novel Yaruingam. Bhattcharya’s famous works include Yaruingam, Mritunjoy, Yaruingam, and Rajpathe Ringiyaye. He died in 1997.
