Bilvakeswar Mahadev Temple

Located in the lap of Bilva Mountain in Haridwar, Bilvakeswar Mahadev Temple houses two shivlings. The shivling consecrated by Adi Guru Shankaracharya, is enshrined inside the temple and the one situated outside the temple is known as Bilvakeswar Mahadev. It is believed that Parvati did tough penance here to fulfill her wish of marrying Lord Shiva and she also took a holy glimpse of Lord Shiva here. That is why this temple is named as Bilvakeswar Mahadev. A cupola (domed roof) is situated at the top of this temple. Shivratri is the main festival celebrated in this temple. The temple is situated near the Gauri Kund (pond), which is considered as the place where Parvati did penance.
