Biligiri Rangaswamy Temple is an ancient Vishnu shrine, located at the Biligiri Rangaswamy Hills, in
Chamrajnagar District of
Karnataka. According to the legend,
Lord Ram and
Lord Parasurama worshipped Lord Ranganatha on these hills.
Installed by Sage Vasishta, the presiding deity here is Lord Rangaswamy (Lord Vishnu). The deity is worshipped in three forms - Srinivasa, Venkateshwara and Ranganatha. The devotees also worship His consort as Alamelumanga, Goddess Lakshmi and Ranganayaki. A car festival is organized twice in a year (in January and April).
Biligiri Ranganna Temple also has a separate shrine for Lord Gangadhareshwara. The pillars of the temple are adorned with the beautiful sculptures of Goddess Saraswati, Lord Krishna and Anjaneya (Lord Hanuman).
The temple can be accessed from Mysore (85 km) via Malavalli. Biligiri Rangaswamy Temple Wildlife Sanctuary is a nearby excursion.
