Bibi Bhani

Bibi Bhani is a revered woman in Sikh religion. She was the daughter of Guru Amar Das (the third Sikh guru), wife of Guru Ram Das (the fourth guru) and the mother of Guru Arjan Dev (the fifth Sikh guru). She was a devoted Sikh and contributed her valuable labor in the construction of Gurdwara Baoli Sahib at Goindwal in Amritsar District of Punjab.

Bibi Bhani was very devoted to her father, Guru Amar Das. A very popular incident supports this fact. The guru once sat on a wooden stool for meditation, ignorant of the fact that one leg of the stool was about to break. His daughter noticed this, but was hesitant to disturb his meditation. Instead, she put her hand below the stool to provide the required support. Even though her hand began to bleed owing to the subsequent injury, she did not disturb the guru. On completion of the meditation, the guru noticed her hand bleeding. Seeing her utter devotion towards him, he blessed her saying that one of her son would became a Sikh guru. His words turned out to be true and Bibi Bhani’s youngest son, Arjan Dev, went on to become the fifth Sikh guru.
