Bibi Bhagbhari is a renowned female personality in Sikh history. She was one of the first preachers of the Sikh religion. She was known for her hardworking nature and sincerity.
Bibi Bhagbhari became a disciple of Guru Amar Das, the third guru of Sikhism, at a very young age. She was assigned the region around Srinagar in the Kashmir Valley for preaching the Sikh religion. She carried out her duty as a missionary to the full satisfaction of her guru. She preached the new religion with utter sincerity. Even when she attained an old age, she choose not to return to Punjab. Instead she made Srinagar her new home. When she was unable to continue with the preaching, her son carried on her work. Following her death, the local residents built a gurdwara in her honor.
