Bhurnur




Nestled in the outskirts of Adilabad, Bhurnur is a small village in Utnur taluk, Andhra Pradesh. This village is famous for ancient temples.

The main attraction is the beautiful Pochamman Temple. The majority of the villagers belong to the tribal groups of Pradhans and Gonds. The villagers of Bhurnur are keen in preserving their traditional and ritual activities.

Apart from Aki Pen, the guardian deity, the villagers worship the deities like Masoba, Anvil Pen and Satti Pen. During the main festival, a goat is sacrificed to the chief deity and the people pray for a good harvest.

The deity of Masoba has a separate festival during Dussehra. Rajula is another festival celebrated in the honor of Nagoda deity. Devotees believe that Nagoba protects their herdsmen and cattle. This festival consummates in a non vegetarian feast.
