Built just after the
Gupta period, Bhima Temple appears to be the earliest of the temples on the Mahendragiri hill. Made of five huge square sized block of stones, this temple consists of a low and squat tower, square sanctum, squat
shikhara and flat roof. This temple is sometimes considered as the Gokarneshwara temple of the place. The temple is devoid of sculptural decoration.
Nearby, there are three other hut-like uncut stone structures arranged in groups, which are worth mentioning.
The temple is easily accessible from Paralakhemundi, 40 km from Palasa
Andhra Pradesh. Mahendragiri hill is 75 km from
Berhampur. The nearest railhead Palasa is on the
Howrah -
Chennai rail route.
