Bhatner Fort

Bhatnair Fort

One of the oldest forts in India, Bhatnair Fort is located at Hanumangarh. It is believed that its foundation was laid around 1,700 years ago.

The fort was associated with Lord Krishna’s Yaduvanshi generation. It later changed hands from the Yaduvanshis to Ghaznavis, Timur, Prithviraj Chauhan and the Rathores. Sher Khan, a subedar of the area in 1250, was buried inside the fort and one can see his grave here. After India's independence the fort was declared as a protected monument.

Due to age, neglect and encroachment the fort has lost its old glory and is in a dilapidated state. Numerous temples, including those of Lord Hanuman and Lord Shiva, can be seen in the fort.
