Ayurveda, metals, animal or plant matter after purification are reduced to their oxide or sulphide form and this is called Bhasma. Purification is one of the important feature and the quality very much depends on the purification.
Bhasma penetrates deep into the body and helps in the healing of deep-seated illness. Wearing Bhasma on the forehead is a custom among the Hindus.
Abhrak Bhasma, Baikrant Bhasma, Kukutandtvak Bhasma, Moti Bhasma are some of the Bhasmas. Bhasmas are prescribed for various diseases like chronic asthma, hemorrhage, epilepsy, abdominal colic, dyspepsia, diarrhea, anorexia and calcium deficiency.
