Bharat Kala Bhavan, established in 1950, is an archeological museum situated within the sprawling grounds of
Banaras Hindu University in
Varanasi. It displays various archaeological materials, plaster cast sculptures, bronze images, terracotta, beads, seals, metal crafts, ivory, jades and jewellery.
Painting section includes Rajasthani, Mughal, Pahari folk, contemporary and miniature varieties. The textile section features the most inspiring collection of Banaras silks and brocades, embroidered shawls from Jammu and Kashmir and the rare Chamba rumals.
Entry to the museum is free. Informational lectures are organized occasionally. Visitors are allowed between 10:30 and 16:30 hrs on all days except university holidays.
