Bhai Balwand was a Muslim poet and musician who used to recite ‘kirtan’ for Guru Arjan Dev. This poet has an important position in Sikhism, since a ballad jointly composed by him and his brother Bhai Satta is included in the Guru Granth Sahib.
Bhai Balwand was the grandson of Bhai Mardana, the musician companion of Guru Nanak. He carried forward his family legacy by performing for Guru Arjan Dev. He continued this tradition for the next guru, Guru Hargobind.
