Bhagat Puran Singh




A philanthropist to the core, Bhagat Puran Singh (1904-1992) spent his entire life in the service of abandoned and orphaned children and mentally retarded, without any huge financial backing and publicity.

He was born on June 4 1904, at Rajewal in Ludhiana District of Punjab. He always had an unending love for the suffering humanity. He also worked for spreading the awareness about the global dangers of environment pollution and increasing soil erosion. He fought against violence and poverty.

Through out his life he worked for the rehabilitation of the mentally and terminally ill patients. In 1947 he established an institute to care the sick, disabled and abandoned persons. He also founded Pingalwara, a home for human service. He was honored with Padamshri award in 1979.
