Bethamangala is a small town, located on the banks of
Palar River, in
Kolar District of
Karnataka. The word ‘Bethamangala’ was derived from ‘Vedamangala’ or ‘Vedapuri’. Bethamangala is about 28 km south-east of
Kolar, the center of the Indian gold mining industry.
The town with its large orchards, parks and lawns together makes it a favorite tourist destination. Various species of birds can be seen around here, making the place a birdwatcher’s ideal getaway.
Places of tourist interest are
Vijayendra Temple, Arakeshwara Temple, Hanuman Temple, Dharmaraja Temple and a mosque. There are two old stones, which date back to 904 and 944 AD. A cluster of three temples - Subrahmanya, Sangameshwara and Bhairaveshwara - are located on the northern periphery of the town.
Kolar Railway Station serves this area. Regular buses connect Bethamangala with Kolar, Malur, Tekal and Avani.
