Started in 1967, Berhampur University is a state university located at
Berhampur in
Orissa. It is recognized by the
University Grants Commission (UGC). Covering an area of about two hundred fifty acres, the university has a wide area under its jurisdiction consisting the districts of
Ganjam,
Gajapati,
Koraput,
Rayagada,
Nabarangpur,
Malkangiri,
Kandhamal and
Boudh. Eleven government colleges, sixty two non government colleges and twenty six professional technical colleges are affiliated to the university.
There are twenty post-graduate departments in the university offering specialized subjects and M Phil programs. The university campus now features eight teaching blocks, eight hostels, a health center, guest house, high school/junior college, library, museum-cum-archival cell, playground, sports council center, shopping complex, canteen, state bank of india branch, post office, three temples and an administrative building with a distant education cell and a college development council.
Berhampur University is about 12 km from Berhampur and 5 km from Gopalpur-On-Sea.
