Belvedere House is a prominent building in
Kolkata (formerly, Calcutta). Presently it houses the National Library, one of Asia’s three largest libraries.
Kolkata was the capital during the rule of the British East India Company in India. Belvedere House then served as the residential quarters for the Lieutenant Governors. After the shifting of the capital from Kolkata to Delhi, Belvedere House became the Viceroy’s official residence.
