Bavikonda, 20 km from
Visakhapatnam, is one of the most sacred and ancient
Buddhist centers in Asia. An excavated site, Bavikonda revealed the remains of religious structures,
stupas, chaityagrihas, the congregation hall, platform,
viharas and kitchen-cum-store complexes. Other relics include Roman coins,
Satavahana coins and the pottery dating back to the 3rd century BC to the 2nd century.
