Basgo is a beautiful town in
Leh District,
Jammu and Kashmir. It is 42 km from
Leh town. Basgo was once the capital of lower
Ladakh before its union with Leh.
Popular of the highlights is Basgo Monastery, a Buddhist shrine, which holds beautiful frescoes and a copper statue of the Maitreya Buddha.
Basgo holds rich cultural heritage. It boasts scenic large agricultural fields, which stand in its full grandeur during the harvest season. Basgo is also a popular spot for trekking.
Nearby towns are Gondpapa and Lazing to the north, Nimu to the east and Achirik to the south.
